A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Part 3 of Article 1 of Chapter 18 of Title 43 of
1- 2 the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to licenses
1- 3 for funeral directors and embalmers, so as to provide for
1- 4 continuing education requirements for those licensees; to
1- 5 repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1- 7 Part 3 of Article 1 of Chapter 18 of Title 43 of the
1- 8 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to licenses for
1- 9 funeral directors and embalmers, is amended by adding at the
1-10 end the following Code sections:
1-11 "43-18-55. (Index)
1-12 (a) The board shall be authorized to require persons
1-13 seeking renewal of an embalmer's license under this
1-14 chapter to complete board approved continuing education of
1-15 not less than 10 hours biennially. The board shall be
1-16 authorized to approve courses offered by institutions of
1-17 higher learning, specialty societies, or professional
1-18 organizations or by others the board deems appropriate.
1-19 (b) The board shall be authorized to waive the continuing
1-20 education requirement in cases of hardship, disability,
1-21 illness, or under other such circumstances as the board
1-22 deems appropriate.
1-23 (c) The continuing education requirement pursuant to this
1-24 Code section shall be waived for persons who hold an
1-25 inactive license or for licensed individuals over the age
1-26 of 65.
1-27 (d) An embalmer who is also a licensed funeral director
1-28 and who completes the continuing education requirements
1-29 for funeral directors pursuant to Code Section 43-18-56
1-30 shall not be required to complete additional continuing
1-31 education requirements pursuant to this Code section.

2- 5 renewal cycle which begins after the 1996 renewal.

SECTION 2.
2-33 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2-34 repealed.
