A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Article 2 of Chapter 5 of Title 40 of the Official
1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the issuance,
1- 3 expiration, and renewal of drivers' licenses, so as to
1- 4 provide that each such license shall state whether or not
1- 5 the licensee is a citizen of the United States; to repeal
1- 6 conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1- 8 Article 2 of Chapter 5 of Title 40 of the Official Code of
1- 9 Georgia Annotated, relating to the issuance, expiration, and
1-10 renewal of drivers' licenses, is amended by striking in its
1-11 entirety Code Section 40-5-28, relating to the issuance of
1-12 licenses, and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
1-13 "40-5-28. (Index)
1-14 The department shall, upon payment of the required fee,
1-15 issue to every applicant qualifying therefor a driver's
1-16 license indicating the type or general class of vehicles
1-17 the licensee may drive, which license shall be upon a form
1-18 prescribed by the department and which shall bear thereon
1-19 a distinguishing number assigned to the licensee, a color
1-20 photograph of the licensee, the licensee's full name, the
1-21 licensee's United States citizenship status, either a
1-22 facsimile of the signature of the licensee or a space upon
1-23 which the licensee shall write his or her usual signature
1-24 with a pen and ink immediately upon receipt of the
1-25 license, and such other information or identification as
1-26 is required by the department. No license shall be valid
1-27 until it has been so signed by the licensee. United
1-28 States citizenship will be indicated on the face of the
1-29 license by placement of an 'X' in the appropriate 'Yes' or
1-30 'No' box after the question 'United States citizen?'"

SECTION 2.
2- 1 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
