HB 146 LC 16 4199S A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Code Section 40-5-31 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to replacement drivers' licenses 1- 3 or permits, so as to provide for issuance or a replacement 1- 4 license or permit for the period of time remaining on the 1- 5 original issuance; to provide for fees; to provide for 1- 6 related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 7 purposes. 1- 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 9 Code Section 40-5-31 of the Official Code of Georgia 1-10 Annotated, relating to replacement drivers' licenses or 1-11 permits, is amended by striking subsection (a) of said Code 1-12 section in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the 1-13 following: 1-14 "(a) In the event that an instruction permit or a driver's 1-15 license issued under this chapter is lost or destroyed, 1-16 the person to whom the same was issued may upon payment of 1-17 the required fee and upon furnishing proof satisfactory to 1-18 the department that such permit has been lost or 1-19 destroyed: 1-20 (1) Obtain obtain a new permit or license upon 1-21 furnishing proof satisfactory to the department that 1-22 such permit or license has been lost or destroyed. ; 1-23 (2) Obtain a replacement permit or license. 1-24 A new permit obtained under this Code section shall be 1-25 obtained in the same manner and under the same conditions 1-26 and limitations as provided in Code Section 40-5-24. A 1-27 new license obtained under this Code section shall be 1-28 obtained in the same manner and under the same conditions 1-29 and limitations as provided in Code Section 40-5-32, 1-30 relating to renewals of licenses. A replacement permit or 1-31 license obtained under this Code section shall be issued 1-32 only for the remaining period for which the original -1- (Index) LC 16 4199S 2- 1 permit or license was issued for a fee of $5.00 and no 2- 2 examination or eyesight test shall be required to obtain 2- 3 such replacement permit." SECTION 2. 2- 4 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2- 5 repealed. -2- (Index)
