A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Article 1 of Chapter 12 of Title 15 of the Official
1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions
1- 3 relative to juries, so as to provide that women with a child
1- 4 age four years or younger may be exempt from serving as a
1- 5 juror; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1- 7 Article 1 of Chapter 12 of Title 15 of the Official Code of
1- 8 Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relative
1- 9 to juries, is amended by striking in its entirety Code
1-10 Section 15-12-2, relating to a certain exemption from jury
1-11 duty, and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
1-12 "15-12-2. (Index)
1-13 (a) Any person summoned to serve as a juror in any court
1-14 of this state shall be excused from such service during
1-15 his or her attendance as a legislator in the General
1-16 Assembly.
1-17 (b) Any woman having a child aged four years or younger
1-18 shall upon request be exempted from serving on a jury in
1-19 any court in this state."
SECTION 2.
Juries; exempt women with children four years or younger 1549 hb1549
1-20 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-21 repealed.
