A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Code Section 20-2-915 of the Official Code of
1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to health insurance coverage for
1- 3 retiring and retired public school and certain community
1- 4 college employees and dependents, so as to provide such
1- 5 coverage for certain retired public school and community
1- 6 college employees; to repeal a certain Act; to repeal
1- 7 conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1- 9 Code Section 20-2-915 of the Official Code of Georgia
1-10 Annotated, relating to health insurance coverage for
1-11 retiring and retired public school and certain community
1-12 college employees and dependents, is amended by striking in
1-13 its entirety subsection (b) and inserting in lieu thereof
1-14 the following:
1-15 "(b) The contract or contracts shall provide for health
1-16 insurance for retired former public school employees and
1-17 retired former employees of a community college operated
1-18 and funded by a local school system and their spouses and
1-19 dependent children, as defined by the regulations of the
1-20 board, under such terms as the board may deem appropriate
1-21 the same terms as are applicable to persons subject to
1-22 subsection (a) of this Code section. The former retired
1-23 employees shall include individuals who retired prior to
1-24 January 1, 1987, and who receive benefits from one of the
1-25 retirement systems operated by the state or by a local
1-26 school system. The costs of employer contributions and
1-27 the administration of providing such insurance may be
1-28 assessed against such retired former employees or may
1-29 shall be appropriated to the Department of Education.
1-30 Such retired former employees shall pay premiums for such
1-31 health insurance in an amount set by the board after
1-32 consideration of the amount appropriated to the Department
1-33 of Education. The board shall adopt regulations
1-34 prescribing the conditions under which a retired former

2- 1 employee may elect to participate in or withdraw from the
2- 2 plan."
Section 2.
2- 3 An Act to amend Code Section 20-2-915 of the Official Code
2- 4 of Georgia Annotated, approved April 14, 1987 (Ga. L. 1987,
2- 5 p. 1037), specifically including without limitation Section
2- 6 2 of such Act, is expressly repealed.
SECTION 3.
2- 7 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 8 repealed.
