                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                               AN ACT


  1- 1  To amend an Act providing for the Clarke County School
  1- 2  District, approved March 7, 1955 (Ga. L. 1955, p. 3057), as
  1- 3  amended, particularly by an Act approved January 15, 1993
  1- 4  (Ga. L. 1993, p. 3514), so as to change the compensation and
  1- 5  expenses of the members of the Board of Education of Clarke
  1- 6  County; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting
  1- 7  laws; and for other purposes.

  1- 8       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

                         SECTION 1.

  1- 9  An Act providing for the Clarke County School District,
  1-10  approved March 7, 1955 (Ga. L. 1955, p. 3057), as amended,
  1-11  particularly by an Act approved January 15, 1993 (Ga. L.
  1-12  1993, p. 3514), is amended by striking subsection (g)
  1-13  thereof, which reads as follows:

  1-14    "(g) The president and vice president of the Board of
  1-15    Education of Clarke County shall be elected from the
  1-16    membership of the board by a majority vote of the members.
  1-17    The president and vice president shall be elected at the
  1-18    first regular meeting of the elected board held in 1994
  1-19    and at the first regular meeting of the elected board in
  1-20    each even-numbered year thereafter and each shall serve
  1-21    until a successor is elected by the board as herein
  1-22    provided.  The president shall be compensated in the
  1-23    amount of $75.00 per meeting not to exceed $375.00 per
  1-24    month, and each of the other members shall be compensated
  1-25    in the amount of $50.00 per meeting not to exceed $250.00
  1-26    per month.",

  1-27  and inserting in its place the following:

  1-28    "(g) The president and vice president of the Board of
  1-29    Education of Clarke County shall be elected from the
  1-30    membership of the board by a majority vote of the members.
  1-31    The president and vice president shall be elected at the
  1-32    first regular meeting of the elected board held in 1994
  1-33    and at the first regular meeting of the elected board in

  2- 1    each even-numbered year thereafter and each shall serve
  2- 2    until a successor is elected by the board as herein
  2- 3    provided.  The president shall be compensated in the
  2- 4    amount of $450.00 per month, and each of the other members
  2- 5    shall be compensated in the amount of $300.00 per month.
  2- 6    Members of the board of education, including the
  2- 7    president, shall also be reimbursed for the actual
  2- 8    expenses necessarily incurred in the performance of their
  2- 9    official duties."

                         SECTION 2.

  2-10  This Act shall become effective on the first day of the
  2-11  month following the month in which it is approved by the
  2-12  Governor or in which it becomes law without such approval.

                         SECTION 3.

  2-13  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
  2-14  repealed.
