HB 511 LC 16 4146S A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Code Section 32-6-24 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to lengths of vehicles and 1- 3 loads, so as to provide that the length of certain loads of 1- 4 wood products may exceed the length of 60 feet; to provide 1- 5 for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for 1- 6 other purposes. 1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 8 Code Section 32-6-24 of the Official Code of Georgia 1- 9 Annotated, relating to lengths of vehicles and loads, is 1-10 amended by striking paragraph (2) of subsection (b) of said 1-11 Code section in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof a 1-12 new paragraph (2) to read as follows: 1-13 "(2)(A) Loads of poles, logs, pilings, lumber, 1-14 structural steel, timber structural members, piping, 1-15 and prestressed and precast concrete may exceed the 1-16 length of 60 feet without requiring a permit when they 1-17 are single length pieces and no pieces are loaded end 1-18 to end, but a. A single trip permit shall be required 1-19 if the total length of such vehicle and load exceeds 1-20 75 feet. 1-21 (B) Loads of unprocessed forest products, including 1-22 but not limited to poles, logs, and pilings, and 1-23 lumber, whether they are single pieces or pieces 1-24 loaded end to end or overlapping, may be a maximum 1-25 total length of 60 feet with a maximum length of 41 1-26 feet between the kingpin and the center of the rear 1-27 tandem axles or the rear axle in the case of a single 1-28 axle. The length of the truck tractor transporting 1-29 such load shall not affect or be calculated in the 1-30 maximum total load length. The rear extremity of each 1-31 load shall be marked with warning flags which meet the 1-32 requirements set forth in Code Section 40-8-27. 1-33 Additionally, loads moved at night must be equipped -1- (Index) LC 16 4146S 2- 1 with a red marker light at the rear extremity of such 2- 2 load as provided in Code Section 40-8-27 or with an 2- 3 amber strobe light." SECTION 2. 2- 4 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2- 5 repealed. -2- (Index)
