HB 55 LC 16 3882 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Code Section 17-15-8 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to an award of compensation to a 1- 3 crime victim, so as to increase the maximum amount of such 1- 4 compensation; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 5 purposes. 1- 6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 7 Code Section 17-15-8 of the Official Code of Georgia 1- 8 Annotated, relating to an award of compensation to a crime 1- 9 victim, is amended by striking subsection (c) of said Code 1-10 section in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the 1-11 following: 1-12 "(c)(1) Notwithstanding any other provisions of this 1-13 chapter, no award made under the provisions of this 1-14 chapter shall exceed $1,000.00 in the aggregate; 1-15 provided, however, with respect to any claim filed with 1-16 the board as a result of a crime occurring on or after 1-17 July 1, 1994 1995, no award made under the provisions of 1-18 this chapter payable to a victim and to all other 1-19 claimants sustaining economic loss because of injury to 1-20 or death of such victim shall exceed $5,000.00 1-21 $10,000.00 in the aggregate. 1-22 (2) No award under this chapter for the following losses 1-23 shall exceed the maximum amount authorized: 1-24 Category Maximum Award 1-25 Lost Wages $ 5,000.00 10,000.00 1-26 Funeral Expenses 3,000.00 6,000.00 1-27 Financial Hardship or Loss 1-28 of Support 5,000.00 10,000.00 1-29 Medical 5,000.00 10,000.00 1-30 Counseling 2,500.00 5,000.00" -1- (Index) LC 16 3882 SECTION 2. 2- 1 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2- 2 repealed. -2- (Index)
