A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Article 3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official
1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to other state symbols,
1- 3 so as to designate the peach as the official state fruit; to
1- 4 provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and
1- 5 for other purposes.
1- 6 WHEREAS, Georgia is known throughout the world as the "Peach
1- 7 State"; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, the peach growers of this state have earned a
1- 9 well-deserved reputation for consistently producing peaches
1-10 of the highest quality; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Georgia grown peaches are recognized for their
1-12 wonderful flavor, texture, and appearance and for their
1-13 nutritious qualities which promote a healthy, balanced diet;
1-14 and
1-15 WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that the peach be
1-16 properly recognized as an official symbol of this state and
1-17 that its use on motor vehicle license plates, state
1-18 publications, state lottery tickets, and other materials be
1-19 encouraged and expanded.
1-20 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1-21 Article 3 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official Code of
1-22 Georgia Annotated, relating to other state symbols, is
1-23 amended by adding a new Code section at the end thereof, to
1-24 be designated Code Section 50-3-70, to read as follows:
1-25 "50-3-70. (Index)
1-26 The peach is designated as the official Georgia state
1-27 fruit."
SECTION 2.
1-28 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-29 repealed.
