HB 629 LC 21 3142 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend an Act entitled "An Act to create the Walton County 1- 2 Commission of Children and Youth," approved March 24, 1994 1- 3 (Ga. L. 1994, p. 4076), so as to clarify the nature of the 1- 4 commission; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 5 purposes. 1- 6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 7 An Act entitled "An Act to create the Walton County 1- 8 Commission of Children and Youth," approved March 24, 1994 1- 9 (Ga. L. 1994, p. 4076), is amended by striking in its 1-10 entirety subsection (a) and inserting in lieu thereof the 1-11 following: 1-12 "(a) There is created a body corporate and politic to be 1-13 known as the Walton County Commission on Children and 1-14 Youth, which shall be deemed to be an instrumentality of 1-15 the state and a public corporation by that name, style, 1-16 and title and said body may contract and be contracted 1-17 with, sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, and 1-18 complain and defend in all courts of law and equity. The 1-19 commission shall have perpetual existence. The commission 1-20 shall be composed of 19 members as follows: 1-21 (1) Four members to be appointed by the Walton County 1-22 legislative delegation, two of whom shall reside in the 1-23 84th House legislative district and be appointed by that 1-24 member of the delegation who represents such district 1-25 and two of whom shall reside in the 87th House 1-26 legislative district and be appointed by that member of 1-27 the delegation who represents such district; one 1-28 appointee of each House member shall serve for an 1-29 initial term of one year and one appointee of each House 1-30 member shall serve an initial term of two years; f 2/9/95 Favorably Reported 2/15/95 1-31 (2) Two members to be appointed by the Walton County 1-32 legislative delegation, from Senate District 45, who 1-33 shall reside in such district and be appointed by the -1- (Index) LC 21 3142 2- 1 member of the delegation who represents such district; 2- 2 one of such members shall be appointed for an initial 2- 3 term of two years and one for an initial term of two 2- 4 years; 2- 5 (3) Four members to be appointed by the Board of 2- 6 Commissioners of Walton County who shall reside in the 2- 7 county, which members shall serve for initial terms of 2- 8 two years; and 2- 9 (4) Nine members to be appointed by the judiciary of the 2-10 Walton County courts, including the superior court, the 2-11 state court, the magistrate court, the juvenile court, 2-12 and the probate court, which members shall serve for 2-13 initial terms of one year. 2-14 Appointments to the Walton County Commission on Children 2-15 and Youth shall include at least two members from each of 2-16 the following fields or professions: 2-17 (1) Law enforcement; 2-18 (2) Child welfare; 2-19 (3) Medical; 2-20 (4) The judiciary; 2-21 (5) Education; and 2-22 (6) The business and civic community." SECTION 2. 2-23 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2-24 repealed. -2- (Index)
