HB 66 LC 16 3823 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Article 1 of Chapter 9 of Title 34 of the Official 1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to workers' compensation 1- 3 in general, so as to make it a felony to make any false or 1- 4 misleading statement for the purpose of obtaining workers' 1- 5 compensation benefits or payments; to provide for related 1- 6 matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 8 Article 1 of Chapter 9 of Title 34 of the Official Code of 1- 9 Georgia Annotated, relating to workers' compensation in 1-10 general, is amended by striking Code Section 34-9-19, 1-11 relating to penalty for false or misleading statements when 1-12 obtaining benefits, in its entirety and inserting in its 1-13 place the following: 1-14 "34-9-19. (Index) 1-15 Any person, firm, or corporation who willfully makes any 1-16 false or misleading statement or representation for the 1-17 purpose of obtaining or denying any benefit or payment 1-18 under this chapter shall be guilty of a misdemeanor felony 1-19 and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine 1-20 of not more less than $1,000.00 or by imprisonment for not 1-21 to exceed less than one year, or by both such fine and 1-22 imprisonment." SECTION 2. 1-23 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 1-24 repealed. -1- (Index)
