HB 84 LC 21 3007 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official 1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the state flag and 1- 3 other flags, so as to change the design and description of 1- 4 the state flag; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 5 purposes. 1- 6 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 7 Article 1 of Chapter 3 of Title 50 of the Official Code of 1- 8 Georgia Annotated, relating to the state flag and other 1- 9 flags, is amended by striking Code Section 50-3-1, relating 1-10 to the description of the state flag, and inserting in lieu 1-11 thereof a new Code Section 50-3-1 to read as follows: 1-12 "50-3-1. (Index) 1-13 The flag of the State of Georgia shall be a vertical band 1-14 of blue occupying one-third of the entire flag nearest to 1-15 the flagstaff. The remainder of the space shall be a 1-16 square, two-thirds the length of the flag, having a red 1-17 background with a broad saltire of blue bordered with 1-18 white on which 13 white mullets or five-pointed stars, 1-19 corresponding in number to that of the Confederate States dd dt U@dZU@d@U@dƒ~U@di~U@dO~U@d5~U@ 1-21 Congress, are emblazoned; so that such remainder shall be 1-22 the same as the union of the flag of the Confederate 1-23 States as approved and cited in Statutes at Large of the 1-24 Confederate States Congress, 1st and 2nd Sessions, 1-25 1862-63, 1863-64, and approved May 1, 1863, such remainder 1-26 being popularly known as the Battle Flag of the 1-27 Confederacy equally divided into three horizontal bands, 1-28 the upper and lower of which shall be scarlet in color and 1-29 the middle of which shall be white in color. On the blue 1-30 field shall be stamped, painted, or embroidered the coat 1-31 of arms of the state. Every force of the organized 1-32 militia shall carry this flag when on parade or review." -1- (Index) LC 21 3007 SECTION 2. 2- 1 Alllaws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 2- 2 repealed. -2- (Index)
