HB 887 LC 22 1680 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Chapter 9 of Title 24 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to witnesses generally, so as to 1- 3 provide that certain admissions and communications between 1- 4 an attorney employed by a state agency and employees of such 1- 5 agency shall be excluded; to provide for related matters; to 1- 6 repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 8 Chapter 9 of Title 24 of the Official Code of Georgia 1- 9 Annotated, relating to witnesses generally, is amended by 1-10 striking in its entirety Code Section 24-9-21, relating to 1-11 confidentiality of certain communications, and inserting in 1-12 lieu thereof the following: 1-13 "24-9-21. (Index) 1-14 (a) There are certain admissions and communications 1-15 excluded on grounds of public policy. Among these are: 1-16 (1) Communications between husband and wife; 1-17 (2) Communications between attorney and client; 1-18 (3) Communications among grand jurors; 1-19 (4) Secrets of state; and 1-20 (5) Communications between psychiatrist and patient. 1-21 (b) Without limiting the scope of paragraph (2) of 1-22 subsection (a) of this Code section, admissions and 1-23 communications between an attorney who is employed by a 1-24 state agency and employees of such agency in the course of 1-25 providing legal services to such agency are excluded on 1-26 the grounds of public policy." SECTION 2. 1-27 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 1-28 repealed. -1- (Index)
