                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                               AN ACT


  1- 1  To amend an Act creating the State Court of Cobb County,
  1- 2  approved March 26, 1964 (Ga. L. 1964, p. 3211), as amended,
  1- 3  particularly by an Act approved March 14, 1984 (Ga. L. 1984,
  1- 4  p. 4256), so as to change the compensation of the judges of
  1- 5  Division 1 and the associate judges of Division 2 of the
  1- 6  State Court of Cobb County; to provide for related matters;
  1- 7  to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting
  1- 8  laws; and for other purposes.

  1- 9       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

                         SECTION 1.

  1-10  An Act creating the State Court of Cobb County, approved
  1-11  March 26, 1964 (Ga. L. 1964, p. 3211), as amended,
  1-12  particularly by an Act approved March 14, 1984 (Ga. L. 1984,
  1-13  p. 4256), is amended by striking from Section 23 of Part 1
  1-14  the following:

  1-15    "The salary of the judges of the State Court of Cobb
  1-16    County shall be $82,668.00 per annum.",

  1-17  and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

  1-18    "The salary of the judges of Division 1 of the State Court
  1-19    of Cobb County shall be $85,975.00 per annum."

                         SECTION 2.

  1-20  Said Act is further amended by further striking subsection
  1-21  (a) of Section 2-3 of Part 2 and inserting in lieu thereof a
  1-22  new subsection (a) to read as follows:

  1-23    "(a) The salary of each associate judge shall be
  1-24    $65,630.00 per annum to be paid in equal monthly
  1-25    installments from funds of Cobb County.  The associate
  1-26    judges are designated as full-time judges and may not
  1-27    engage in the private practice of law."

                         SECTION 3.

  2- 1  This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the
  2- 2  Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

                         SECTION 4.

  2- 3  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
  2- 4  repealed.
