A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Coach L. J. "Stan" Lomax; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, Coach L. J. "Stan" Lomax was recently inducted into
1- 3 the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, joining such other sports
1- 4 stars as Ty Cobb, John Heisman, and Hank Aaron; and
1- 5 WHEREAS, he began his coaching career at Risley High School
1- 6 in Brunswick, where he had a record of 101-36-4 after 15
1- 7 years, and then he returned to his alma mater, Fort Valley
1- 8 State College, where he coached for another 15 years,
1- 9 amassing an 86-33-7 record; and
1-10 WHEREAS, he became a coach because of his lifelong desire to
1-11 give back to society a measure of what he had received, and
1-12 he reasoned that he was better suited to reaching young men
1-13 as a coach than as a clergyman, and reach them he did, so
1-14 well that now he has a huge "family" of men who return to
1-15 thank him for the positive role he played in their lives;
1-16 and
1-17 WHEREAS, at 72 years of age, Coach Lomax continues to be
1-18 successful in his many undertakings and, as executive
1-19 director of the Peach County Chamber of Commerce, he
1-20 demonstrates the traits that have made him so successful:
1-21 his abilities as a diplomat and as an ambassador of
1-22 goodwill, his love of people, his unselfishness, and his
1-23 modesty; and
1-24 WHEREAS, he credits much of his success to a good life and a
1-25 good wife.
1-26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-27 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Coach
1-28 L. J. "Stan" Lomax for his many contributions to the youth
1-29 of this state.
1-30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-31 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-32 appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach L. J. "Stan"
1-33 Lomax.
