A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the Georgia Women's Intersport Network (GA-WIN)
1- 2 and inviting the members thereof to appear before the House
1- 3 of Representatives; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, February 1, 1995, has been designated as National
1- 5 Girls and Women in Sports Day; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, National Girls and Women in Sports Day recognizes
1- 7 women and girls in sports across the nation, celebrates the
1- 8 outstanding achievements of female athletes, and directs
1- 9 attention to the unique issues facing females in sports; and
1-10 WHEREAS, the Georgia Women's Intersport Network (GA-WIN) is
1-11 coordinating events for this special occasion and will
1-12 conduct the third annual National Girls and Women in Sports
1-13 Day Community Awards program; and
1-14 WHEREAS, high schools and amateur sports clubs throughout
1-15 the state have received nomination forms for such awards;
1-16 and
1-17 WHEREAS, the Donna de Varona Spirit of Sport Award and the
1-18 Wilma Rudolph Courage Award will be presented to two
1-19 outstanding Georgia female high school athletes and the
1-20 Sportswoman of the Year Award will recognize an outstanding
1-21 female athlete who demonstrates exemplary leadership and
1-22 sportsmanship qualities; and
1-23 WHEREAS, the Georgia Women's Intersport Network (GA-WIN) is
1-24 a participating sponsor of many of the events to be held in
1-25 association with National Girls and Women in Sports Day
1-26 including sports clinics, athlete appearances, exhibition
1-27 games, and information on all areas of women in sports.
1-28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-29 REPRESENTATIVES that this body recognizes National Girls and
1-30 Women in Sports Day and commends and congratulates the
1-31 Georgia Women's Intersport Network (GA-WIN) for its
1-32 outstanding contributions to women and girls in sports in
1-33 Georgia.
1-34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that members of the Georgia Women's
1-35 Intersport Network (GA-WIN) and winners of the National

2- 1 Girls and Women in Sports Day Community Awards are invited
2- 2 to appear before the House of Representatives on February 2,
2- 3 1995, at a time to be determined by the Speaker of the House
2- 4 of Representatives.
2- 5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 6 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 7 appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Women's
2- 8 Intersport Network (GA-WIN).
