HR 161 LC 11 8521 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Designating the Rosa M. Tarbutton Memorial Library; and for 1- 2 other purposes. 1- 3 WHEREAS, Rosa McMaster Tarbutton was a native daughter of 1- 4 Burke County, Georgia; and 1- 5 WHEREAS, she was born in 1899, the daughter of Dr. Hugh 1- 6 Buchannan McMaster and Rosa Moore McMaster; and 1- 7 WHEREAS, she was the wife of Ben J. Tarbutton; and 1- 8 WHEREAS, she was a graduate of Brenau College and received a 1- 9 master's degree in history from Columbia University; and 1-10 WHEREAS, she was a member of Sandersville United Methodist 1-11 Church where she was president of the United Methodist Women 1-12 and a Sunday school teacher; and 1-13 WHEREAS, she was a member and past president of the 1-14 Transylvania Club which has supported the Sandersville 1-15 Public Library since 1909; and 1-16 WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that a library be 1-17 named in her honor. 1-18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY that 1-19 the members of this body recognize the outstanding 1-20 contributions of Rosa M. Tarbutton. 1-21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Education is 1-22 authorized and directed to designate the department's 1-23 regional library in Sandersville, in Washington County, as 1-24 the Rosa M. Tarbutton Memorial Library and to affix an 1-25 appropriate plaque at the entrance to such library for that 1-26 purpose. 1-27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 1-28 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 1-29 appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Rosa M. 1-30 Tarbutton. -1- (Index)
