A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Expressing regret at the passing of Honorable Robert Lee
1- 2 Patten II; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Honorable Robert Lee Patten II served as a
1- 4 dedicated member of the House of Representatives from 1973
1- 5 until his death in 1994; and
1- 6 WHEREAS, he provided outstanding leadership as the chairman
1- 7 of the House Committee on Natural Resources and as
1- 8 co-chairman of the Solid Waste Study Committee; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, he served as the secretary of the University System
1-10 of Georgia Committee, as chairman of the Natural Resources
1-11 Subcommittee on Gas, Oil, Geology, and Minerals, and as a
1-12 longstanding member of the Appropriations Committee and the
1-13 Governmental Affairs Committee; and
1-14 WHEREAS, he maintained the tradition begun by his
1-15 grandfather and followed by his father of serving in the
1-16 House of Representatives and his diligence and dedication
1-17 brought honor and credit to his family; and
1-18 WHEREAS, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War
1-19 II; and
1-20 WHEREAS, he served as mayor pro tempore of Lakeland,
1-21 Georgia; and
1-22 WHEREAS, he was a stockholder and director of Patten Seed
1-23 Company and a director of the Farmers and Merchants Bank in
1-24 Lakeland, Georgia; and
1-25 WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife, Roselyn Carter Patten,
1-26 his two children, Lawson and Paula, and two sisters, Betty
1-27 Swindle and Nell Roquemore; and
1-28 WHEREAS, his distinguished public and community service, his
1-29 knowledge and understanding of the many complex issues
1-30 facing the State of Georgia and its citizens, and his
1-31 willingness to be of service to the members of the General
1-32 Assembly make him a person who will be missed by the members
1-33 of this body.

2- 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 2 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their
2- 3 deepest regret at the passing of Honorable Robert Lee Patten
2- 4 II and extend their sincerest sympathy to the members of his
2- 5 family.
2- 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 7 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 8 appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of the
2- 9 Honorable Robert Lee Patten II.
