HR 310 LC 25 0061 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending Leo Hamilton, DuPont, and others who assisted and 1- 2 participated in the "Carpet for Comfort" project; and for 1- 3 other purposes. 1- 4 WHEREAS, torrential rains caused severe and widespread 1- 5 flooding in many parts of this state in 1994; and 1- 6 WHEREAS, the floods of 1994 caused loss of life and great 1- 7 and extensive damage to property; and 1- 8 WHEREAS, Leo Hamilton, plant manager for DuPont in Athens, 1- 9 Georgia, sought a way to use his business, making fibers, to 1-10 help those in need because of the floods of 1994; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Leo Hamilton and DuPont met that goal by initiating 1-12 the "Carpet for Comfort" project; and 1-13 WHEREAS, DuPont, Milliken, and various local and regional 1-14 United Way agencies worked together through the "Carpet for 1-15 Comfort" project to put over 15,000 square yards of Antron 1-16 Lumena carpet, valued at almost one-quarter million dollars, 1-17 into the hands of United Way agencies in flood damaged 1-18 areas, specifically including the United Way agencies in 1-19 Macon, Albany, Warner Robbins, and Montezuma; and 1-20 WHEREAS, the "Carpet for Comfort" project additionally will 1-21 benefit the United Way agencies in Athens and LaGrange. 1-22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 1-23 REPRESENTATIVES that Leo Hamilton, DuPont, and others who 1-24 assisted and participated in the "Carpet for Comfort" 1-25 project are hereby commended for their concern, initiative, 1-26 dedication, and contribution to the welfare of this state 1-27 and its people during a time of great need. 1-28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 1-29 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit 1-30 appropriate copies of this resolution to Leo Hamilton and 1-31 DuPont. -1- (Index)
