HR 314 LC 8 2438 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending Otis M. Burgess; and for other purposes. 1- 2 WHEREAS, Otis M. Burgess of Albany, Georgia, has contributed 1- 3 substantially to state and local efforts to improve the 1- 4 quality of life for Georgians with disabilities; and 1- 5 WHEREAS, he was a founding member of the Albany Association 1- 6 for Retarded Citizens and has been a dedicated board member 1- 7 and an active volunteer for numerous years in his community 1- 8 and in southwest Georgia; and 1- 9 WHEREAS, he has been instrumental in securing the 1-10 legislative and executive interest and commitment necessary 1-11 to strengthen and expand state services to this very special 1-12 constituency in Georgia; and 1-13 WHEREAS, in recognition of his service and commitment in the 1-14 field of mental health, he was appointed to the Governor's 1-15 Advisory Council on Mental Health, Mental Retardation and 1-16 Substance Abuse where his insight, leadership, and 1-17 compassion have proven invaluable; and 1-18 WHEREAS, his advocacy and effectiveness have secured much 1-19 needed reforms in the quality and breadth of service 1-20 provided by the state to persons with disabilities, and his 1-21 determination and commitment have been an inspiration to 1-22 others; and 1-23 WHEREAS, it is most appropriate to recognize the exemplary 1-24 talent, energy, and ability of this special champion for 1-25 persons with disabilities. 1-26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 1-27 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and 1-28 commend Otis M. Burgess for his dedication and commitment on 1-29 behalf of persons with disabilities. 1-30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 1-31 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 1-32 appropriate copy of this resolution to Otis M.
