                             A RESOLUTION

  1- 1  Commending Honorable Mary Ellen Staley; and for other
  1- 2  purposes.

  1- 3  WHEREAS, Honorable Mary Ellen Staley serves as Judge of the
  1- 4  Superior Court of Cobb County, having been appointed to such
  1- 5  position in 1992; and

  1- 6  WHEREAS, prior to her service on the Superior Court of Cobb
  1- 7  County, she served as Judge of the State Court of Cobb
  1- 8  County from 1984 to 1992, as an Associate Judge of Division
  1- 9  II of the State Court of Cobb County from 1982 to 1984, and
  1-10  as an Assistant District Attorney for the Cobb Judicial
  1-11  Circuit from 1978 to 1982; and

  1-12  WHEREAS, she attended West Georgia College, receiving
  1-13  Bachelor of Arts degrees in English and history; attended
  1-14  the University of Georgia School of Law, receiving her Juris
  1-15  Doctor degree in 1978; and graduated from the National
  1-16  Judicial College at the University of Nevada at Reno in
  1-17  1987; and

  1-18  WHEREAS, Judge Staley has been and continues to be an active
  1-19  and tireless supporter of her community, devoting
  1-20  substantial amounts of time and energy to civic and
  1-21  charitable causes ranging from instructing school children
  1-22  on the consequences of criminal activity to serving on
  1-23  committees overseeing the area's artistic and cultural
  1-24  affairs and hospice activities; and

  1-25  WHEREAS, Judge Staley's competence, efficiency, and
  1-26  compassion have earned the respect and admiration of her
  1-27  colleagues on the bench and the members of her staff; and

  1-28  WHEREAS, Judge Staley is well known and highly regarded for
  1-29  the respectful manner which she accords jurors, litigants,
  1-30  courthouse officials, attorneys, and members of the general
  1-31  public; and

  1-32  WHEREAS, she has been the recipient of many awards and
  1-33  honors and has been affiliated with civic, cultural, and
  1-34  charitable associations too numerous to name; and

  2- 1  WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper that Honorable Mary
  2- 2  Ellen Staley be recognized by this body in light of her
  2- 3  professional distinction, compassionate and fair demeanor,
  2- 4  and tireless dedication to her community.

  2- 5  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
  2- 6  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and
  2- 7  recognize Honorable Mary Ellen Staley, Judge of the Superior
  2- 8  Court of Cobb County, for her meritorious service in the
  2- 9  name of justice and her significant personal efforts on
  2-10  behalf of her community and state.

  2-11  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
  2-12  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
  2-13  appropriate copy of this resolution to Honorable Mary Ellen
  2-14  Staley, Judge of the Superior Court of Cobb County.
