                             A RESOLUTION

  1- 1  Designating Georgia's Scenic Swamp Route; and for other
  1- 2  purposes.

  1- 3  WHEREAS, U.S. Highway One and U.S. Highway 23 join north of
  1- 4  Alma, Georgia, in Bacon County and continue to the
  1- 5  Georgia-Florida border, providing travelers with access to
  1- 6  the scenic and wildly beautiful Okefenokee Swamp Park and
  1- 7  numerous other natural attractions and historic sites
  1- 8  including rivers, tributaries, and natural areas; and

  1- 9  WHEREAS, millions of tourists pass through the State of
  1-10  Georgia while traveling to and from the State of Florida and
  1-11  would be interested in adding an additional destination such
  1-12  as the Okefenokee Swamp or other areas of scenic beauty such
  1-13  as our state parks and forests to their itineraries if the
  1-14  existence of these attractions were more widely promoted;
  1-15  and

  1-16  WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to develop a means of
  1-17  easily alerting the traveling public to the scenic and
  1-18  historic sites which await them along these highways in the
  1-19  southeastern area of our beautiful state.

  1-20  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
  1-21  GEORGIA that that portion of U.S. Highway One, also known as
  1-22  the "Veterans Highway," where it joins with U.S. Highway 23
  1-23  north of Alma, Georgia, in Bacon County and continues to the
  1-24  Georgia-Florida border is designated as Georgia's Scenic
  1-25  Swamp Route of the Veterans Highway.

  1-26  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation
  1-27  is authorized and directed to place appropriate markers
  1-28  designating Georgia's Scenic Swamp Route of the Veterans
  1-29  Highway.

  1-30  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
  1-31  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
  1-32  appropriate copy of this resolution to the commissioner of
  1-33  transportation.
