A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending Ms. Jeannie Padgett; and for other purposes.
1- 2 WHEREAS, Jeannie Padgett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
1- 3 elementary education from Livingstone College, graduating
1- 4 with honors, and a Master of Arts degree in reading from the
1- 5 State University of New York, and she has continued her
1- 6 education as a participant in the Coastal Georgia Writers'
1- 7 Workshop, as a student of the Institute of Children's
1- 8 Literature, and as a student at the Armstrong State Campus
1- 9 of Southern State University working toward a degree in
1-10 counseling; and
1-11 WHEREAS, her career as an educator began in 1970 with a
1-12 position as a third grade teacher in Spencerport, New York,
1-13 and continued with positions as a fifth grade teacher and
1-14 reading specialist in Spencerport and as a reading
1-15 specialist at Savannah High School in Savannah, Georgia; and
1-16 WHEREAS, she has been tireless in professional, civic, and
1-17 community organizations, serving as chairperson of the
1-18 social action committee of the Savannah Alumnae chapter of
1-19 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; a founding member of the
1-20 Savannah Section of the National Council of Negro Women; a
1-21 member of the political action committee of the Georgia
1-22 Association of Educators; treasurer of Electa Chapter No. 1
1-23 of the Order of Eastern Stars; a member of the scholarship,
1-24 cultural, and parade committees of the Martin Luther King,
1-25 Jr., Birthday Observance Association; a member of the board
1-26 of directors of the Savannah Mental Health Association; a
1-27 member of the Black Political Caucus; and a volunteer big
1-28 sister; and
1-29 WHEREAS, she has been a dedicated and devoted member of
1-30 Connor's Temple Baptist Church, serving as superintendent of
1-31 the Sunday school for the children's department, director of
1-32 the board of Christian education, financial secretary for
1-33 the combined choirs, secretary of the singles ministry, and
1-34 chairperson of the calendar committee; and
1-35 WHEREAS, she is known as a caring and creative teacher, a
1-36 diligent and energetic volunteer, and a warm and
1-37 compassionate friend.

2- 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 2 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Ms.
2- 3 Jeannie Padgett of Savannah, Georgia, for her impressive
2- 4 record of service to the children and young people she
2- 5 teaches, to her community, and to her church.
2- 6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2- 7 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
2- 8 appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Jeannie Padgett.
