HR 72 LC 9 8006 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending Eric Zeier; and for other purposes. 1- 2 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier is a student athlete in the truest sense 1- 3 of the phrase; and 1- 4 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier came to Cobb County and Marietta High 1- 5 School to lead the Blue Devils' football team as their 1- 6 quarterback; and 1- 7 WHEREAS, he completed 136 of 231 passes for 2,484 yards and 1- 8 28 touchdowns as a senior at Marietta, and he was named High 1- 9 School Athlete of the Year by the Georgia Sports Hall of 1-10 Fame in 1990; and 1-11 WHEREAS, he chose the University of Georgia over hundreds of 1-12 other colleges and universities as the place at which to 1-13 pursue his collegiate academic and athletic careers and 1-14 entered the university in 1991 under the joint-enrollment 1-15 program for outstanding high school students; and 1-16 WHEREAS, during his four-year athletic career as a 1-17 University of Georgia Bulldog, he completed 838 passes for 1-18 11,153 career passing yards and 67 touchdowns and was 1-19 responsible for 10,841 total offense yards gained; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier leads the Southeastern Conference in 1-21 passing yards gained in a career, in number of total offense 1-22 yards gained in a career, in number of pass completions in a 1-23 career, and in percentage of passes completed in a single 1-24 season and has the third highest rank in the history of 1-25 Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association 1-26 in passing yards gained in a career; and 1-27 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier led the Bulldogs to impressive 1-28 postseason bowl game victories over Arkansas in the 1-29 Independence Bowl and Ohio State in the Citrus Bowl; and 1-30 WHEREAS, he has continually exhibited great leadership and 1-31 strength in the face of adversity, including leading the 1-32 Bulldogs to halt Auburn's 1993-94 unbeaten, untied stretch; 1-33 and -1- (Index) LC 9 8006 2- 1 WHEREAS, Eric Zeier achieved success in scholastics as well 2- 2 as athletics at the University of Georgia and was named to 2- 3 the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. 2- 4 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 2- 5 REPRESENTATIVES that Eric Zeier is commended for his 2- 6 personal achievements and great contributions to the 2- 7 University of Georgia and the people of this state. 2- 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 2- 9 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 2-10 appropriate copy of this resolution to Eric Zeier. dd P‡AR@PÚAR@P-AR@P€AR@PÓA -2- (Index)
