HR 786 LC 18 7143 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Congratulating the City of Martin upon the designation of 1- 2 the Martin Historic District as a National Historic District 1- 3 in the National Historic Register; and for other purposes. 1- 4 WHEREAS, the City of Martin in Stephens County is the 1- 5 homeplace of many great and distinguished Georgians; and 1- 6 WHEREAS, this singular city was established in 1877 with 1- 7 construction of a railroad depot at the crossroads of the 1- 8 then well-established Red Hollow Road and the Air Line 1- 9 Railroad; and 1-10 WHEREAS, from its humble beginnings, the city grew from its 1-11 historic core district into a thriving community; and 1-12 WHEREAS, the Martin Historic District is the historic 1-13 commercial and residential center of the city and is 1-14 significant in architecture, commerce, community planning 1-15 and development, and transportation; and 1-16 WHEREAS, in recognition of its national historical 1-17 significance, the Martin Historic District will be 1-18 designated officially as a National Historic District in the 1-19 National Historic Register in a ceremony to be celebrated on 1-20 March 26, 1996; and 1-21 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the City 1-22 of Martin be recognized and congratulated upon this dd d8@d8@d8@d8@d8@d8@dh8 1-24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 1-25 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily 1-26 congratulate the City of Martin upon the milestone event of 1-27 the designation of the Martin Historic District as a 1-28 National Historic District in the National Historic 1-29 Register. 1-30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 1-31 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 1-32 appropriate copy of this resolution to the mayor and city 1-33 council of Martin, Georgia. -1- (Index)
