A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Commending the 1994 Dunwoody High School fastpitch softball
1- 2 team and inviting the team members, their coaches, and the
1- 3 school principal to appear before the House of
1- 4 Representatives; and for other purposes.
1- 5 WHEREAS, the 1994 Dunwoody High School fastpitch softball
1- 6 team holds the treasured distinction of being the team that
1- 7 won the very first state championship sponsored by the
1- 8 Georgia High School Association for women's fastpitch
1- 9 softball; and
1-10 WHEREAS, forty teams competed during this first season and
1-11 the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats posted a 19-3 record in the
1-12 regular season and were undefeated in Area I; and
1-13 WHEREAS, the Lady Wildcats earned their first area
1-14 championship and a state berth following their successful
1-15 defeat of Shiloh and Meadowcreek; and
1-16 WHEREAS, in the state tournament, Dunwoody defeated
1-17 Lassiter, Tucker, and Brookwood which advanced them to the
1-18 championship game; and
1-19 WHEREAS, on October 25, 1994, the Dunwoody Lady Wildcats
1-20 achieved a 7-3 win over Brookwood and captured the first
1-21 state fastpitch championship; and
1-22 WHEREAS, these exceptional young women finished the season
1-23 with an outstanding record of 26-3 and have brought
1-24 considerable recognition and credit to their school and the
1-25 community; and
1-26 WHEREAS, the extraordinary talent, discipline, and
1-27 motivation of these young athletes reflects the expert
1-28 training and encouragement provided by their very able
1-29 coaches, Lynn Maddox and Cheryl Finke; and
1-30 WHEREAS, the Lady Wildcats benefited significantly from the
1-31 steadfast support they received from Dr. Lucia Norwood,
1-32 DeKalb athletic coordinator, Dr. Jennie Springer, principal
1-33 of Dunwoody High School, and the team's booster club of
1-34 parents and community fans; and

2- 1 WHEREAS, the leadership of the DeKalb County Board of
2- 2 Education in promoting state recognition of fastpitch
2- 3 softball in Georgia high schools made Dunwoody's sterling
2- 4 performance during this initial season all the more
2- 5 memorable and momentous.
2- 6 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
2- 7 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend and
2- 8 congratulate the 1994 Dunwoody High School fastpitch
2- 9 softball team on winning the first state championship
2-10 sponsored for this new competitive sport for high school
2-11 women.
2-12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Dunwoody High
2-13 School fastpitch softball team, their coaches, and the
2-14 school principal are invited to appear before the House of
2-15 Representatives at a time to be determined by the Speaker of
2-16 the House.
2-17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
2-18 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit
2-19 appropriate copies of this resolution to Lynn Maddox and
2-20 Cheryl Finke, co-coaches of the Dunwoody High School
2-21 fastpitch softball team and to Dr. Jennie Springer,
2-22 principal of Dunwoody High School.
