HR 932 LC 18 7312 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Commending Janie Sheldon; and for other purposes. 1- 2 WHEREAS, Janie Sheldon is widely recognized throughout the 1- 3 state as the profoundly proficient personification of 1- 4 excellence in education; and 1- 5 WHEREAS, this premier professional teacher has served with 1- 6 honor and distinction as an educator at Parkview High School 1- 7 in the Gwinnett County school system since 1985 and 1- 8 currently instructs AP and gifted honors literature and 1- 9 composition and gifted honors, honors, and basic English; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, she believes that her role as a teacher is to act 1-12 as an instrument of inspiration and enthusiasm to her pupils 1-13 and to create a positive learning environment through the 1-14 encouragement of competitive instincts in her students; and 1-15 WHEREAS, she is a conspicuously preeminent example of the 1-16 important impact that the efforts of individual classroom 1-17 teachers are making on the quality of education received by 1-18 the children of this state; and 1-19 WHEREAS, in addition to her remarkable role as a full-time 1-20 teacher, she has dedicated innumerable hours of her time, 1-21 talents, and energy to serve on behalf of the high school 1-22 and school system in numerous capacities including 1-23 facilitator of internships and independent study programs 1-24 for gifted students; coordinator of the gifted honors 1-25 program; coordinator and interviewer for the Governor's 1-26 honors program; judge and initial sponsor of Odyssey of the 1-27 Mind; and regional and state judge of the Academic 1-28 Decathalon; and 1-29 WHEREAS, she also serves with distinction as sponsor and 1-30 coach of the Scholars Bowl Team, an extraordinary group of 1-31 students who are required to spend a substantial number of 1-32 after-school hours in practice competition and are selected 1-33 because of their superior academic standing and their 1-34 ability to demonstrate their comprehension and mastery of 1-35 numerous subjects under pressure; and -1- (Index) LC 18 7312 2- 1 WHEREAS, under her expert and unwavering guidance, these 2- 2 perspicacious students have developed and refined the mental 2- 3 agility, verbal dexterity, and intellectual acumen that are 2- 4 necessary for continued excellence in academic competition; 2- 5 and 2- 6 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the often 2- 7 unheralded yet dramatic influence which teachers such as 2- 8 Janie Sheldon have on the quality of education received by 2- 9 the children of this state be recognized appropriately. 2-10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 2-11 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily 2-12 recognize Janie Sheldon for over a decade of unparalleled 2-13 and unexcelled commitment and singular contributions to the 2-14 advancement of education in this state and heartily commend 2-15 her for her exemplary efforts to ensure the unequaled 2-16 quality of instruction received by the young people of this 2-17 state. 2-18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 2-19 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 2-20 appropriate copy of this resolution to Janie Sheldon. -2- (Index)
