A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing and commending the Silver-Haired Legislature;
1- 2 and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, the General Assembly of Georgia created the
1- 4 Silver-Haired Legislature in 1980, in recognition of the
1- 5 unique perspective of our older citizens regarding many
1- 6 social and political issues; and
1- 7 WHEREAS, the Silver-Haired Legislature provides a special
1- 8 forum for deliberation regarding contemporary issues
1- 9 affecting the elderly by convening a model legislative
1-10 assembly composed of representatives elected from every
1-11 legislative district in the state; and
1-12 WHEREAS, many distinguished Georgians have participated in
1-13 the Silver-Haired Legislature; and
1-14 WHEREAS, this legislative model provides a valuable method
1-15 of educating the public regarding legislative procedures as
1-16 it stimulates interest in the political process; and
1-17 WHEREAS, the legislative recommendations which result from
1-18 the deliberations of the Silver-Haired Legislature
1-19 effectively utilize the wisdom of citizens with many
1-20 backgrounds and experiences in contributing to a better
1-21 understanding of many popular proposals; and
1-22 WHEREAS, in an era of intense scrutiny of the actions of
1-23 government, the Silver-Haired Legislature has provided
1-24 another voice of the people for elected officials.
1-25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-26 REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and
1-27 commend the Silver-Haired Legislature for its thoughtful
1-28 deliberation regarding legislative proposals affecting the
1-29 elderly and congratulate the members of the Silver-Haired
1-30 Legislature for their wisdom, dedication, and involvement in
1-31 the political process.
1-32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-33 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-34 appropriate copy of this resolution to the Silver-Haired
1-35 Legislature.
