A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Article 1 of Chapter 9 of Title 34 of the Official
1- 2 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions
1- 3 relative to workers' compensation, so as to provide that any
1- 4 person who performs voluntary service without pay for the
1- 5 Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games or for the Atlanta
1- 6 Paralympic Organizing Committee shall be deemed an employee
1- 7 of the organization for purposes of workers' compensation
1- 8 coverage while performing such service; to provide for
1- 9 automatic repeal; to provide an effective date; to repeal
1-10 conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1-12 Article 1 of Chapter 9 of Title 34 of the Official Code of
1-13 Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions relative
1-14 to workers' compensation, is amended by adding, following
1-15 Code Section 34-9-2.3, a new Code Section 34-9-2.4 to read
1-16 as follows:
1-17 "34-9-2.4. (Index)
1-18 (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (2) of
1-19 Code Section 34-9-1, a person who performs voluntary
1-20 service without pay for the Atlanta Committee for the
1-21 Olympic Games or for the Atlanta Paralympic Organizing
1-22 Committee shall be deemed an employee of the organization
1-23 for purposes of workers' compensation coverage while
1-24 performing such service. For purposes of this Code
1-25 section, 'voluntary service without pay' shall include the
1-26 performance of services by a person who receives no
1-27 remuneration other than meals, uniforms, transportation,
1-28 lodging, or reimbursement for incidental expenses.
1-29 (b) This Code section shall automatically stand repealed
1-30 as of December 31, 1997."

SECTION 2.
2- 1 This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the
2- 2 Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
SECTION 3.
2- 3 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 4 repealed.
