SB 37 95 LC 18 6316 SENATE BILL 37 By: Senator Cheeks of the 23rd A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To amend Code Section 40-5-25 of the Official Code of 1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to license applications and 1- 3 fees, so as to provide for the free replacement of a stolen 1- 4 driver's license; to provide for conditions and limitations; 1- 5 to provide for free police reports in connection with such 1- 6 replacement; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 1- 7 purposes. 1- 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 9 Code Section 40-5-25, relating to license applications and 1-10 fees, is amended by adding a new subsection immediately 1-11 following subsection (a) to be designated subsection (a.1), 1-12 to read as follows: 1-13 "(a.1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Code 1-14 section, there shall be no fee whatsoever for replacement 1-15 of any stolen driver's license, provided that such 1-16 replacement license shall be valid only for the remaining 1-31 repealed. 1-18 that only one such free replacement license may be 1-19 obtained within any four-year period for which the license 1-20 was originally issued. Such free replacement shall only 1-21 be authorized upon the furnishing of a police report by 1-22 the applicant to the department which indicates that the 1-23 wallet, purse, or other repository of the driver's license 1-24 of the applicant was stolen. Any applicant who requests a 1-25 copy of a police report for the purpose of free 1-26 replacement of the driver's license shall be provided one 1-27 free copy of that report by the applicable law enforcement 1-28 agency."
