SENATE BILL 528

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the
1- 2 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to competencies
1- 3 and core curriculum, so as to authorize implementation of a
1- 4 Scholastic Aptitude Test preparatory course for certain
1- 5 public schools; to provide that the contents of such course
1- 6 may be prescribed by each local board of education; to
1- 7 repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION 1.
1- 9 Part 2 of Article 6 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official
1-10 Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to competencies and core
1-11 curriculum, is amended by adding at the end thereof a new
1-12 Code Section 20-2-145 to read as follows:
1-13 "20-2-145. (Index)
1-14 (a) All schools with grade ten or above may make available
1-15 to eligible students a Scholastic Aptitude Test
1-16 preparatory course. Such course of study may be designed
1-17 to offer an opportunity for review and practice to
1-18 students preparing to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test.
1-19 The course may be offered periodically in the manner
1-20 prescribed by the local board.
1-21 (b) Each local board of education shall be authorized to
1-22 supplement and develop the exact approach of content areas
1-23 of such Scholastic Aptitude Test preparatory course with
1-24 such specific curriculum standards as it may deem
1-25 appropriate."
SECTION 2.
1-26 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-27 repealed.
