SB 788 96 LC 9 8826 SENATE BILL 788 By: Senators Ragan of the 11th and Taylor of the 12th A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT 1- 1 To provide that the judge of the Probate Court of Baker 1- 2 County shall also serve as the chief magistrate of the 1- 3 Magistrate Court of Baker County; to provide for the 1- 4 compensation of such judge for service as chief magistrate; 1- 5 to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; 1- 6 and for other purposes. 1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: SECTION 1. 1- 8 (a) The judge of the Probate Court of Baker County shall 1- 9 also serve as and be the chief magistrate of the Magistrate 1-10 Court of Baker County. The term of office of the judge 1-11 serving as chief magistrate shall be concurrent with such 1-12 judge's term of office as judge of the probate court. 1-13 (b) The judge of the probate court and chief magistrate, in 1-14 addition to any compensation received for service as judge 1-15 of the probate court, shall receive a supplement for service 1-16 as chief magistrate in an amount to be fixed by the 1-17 governing authority of Baker County. Such supplement shall 1-18 not be less than the minimum amount provided by any general 1-19 law of the state for additional service by a judge of the 1-20 probate court as chief magistrate. SECTION 2. 1-21 This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the 1-22 Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval. SECTION 3. 1-23 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 1-24 repealed. S. B. 788 -1- (Index)
