SR 242 LC 22 1648 A RESOLUTION 1- 1 Urging federal action to allow uniform scale tolerances 1- 2 regarding truck weights; and for other purposes. 1- 3 WHEREAS, the Georgia Department of Transportation has urged 1- 4 the Federal Highway Administration to allow additional state 1- 5 action on truck weights; and 1- 6 WHEREAS, since state requirements were locked in by federal 1- 7 mandate, there have been road improvements and changes in 1- 8 agriculture, forestry, trucking, and commerce; and 1- 9 WHEREAS, some of our surrounding states allow scale 1-10 tolerances not permitted in Georgia and this places our 1-11 state in an untenable position; and 1-12 WHEREAS, tolerances among neighboring states should be as 1-13 uniform as possible; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Georgia should be permitted to allow tolerances 1-15 equal to the maximum granted by any state in our region; and 1-16 WHEREAS, uniformity would impact favorably on agricultural 1-17 growth and economic development. 1-18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 1-19 members of this body urge the Federal Highway Administration 1-20 to provide for uniform tolerances among the several states. 1-21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 1-22 authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of 1-23 this resolution to every member of the Georgia Congressional 1-24 Delegation urging them to accomplish this objective through 1-25 administrative action of the Federal Highway Administration 1-26 or through an Act of Congress. -1- (Index)
