                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 43-9-1 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 2  Annotated, relating to definitions regarding chiropractors, 
  1- 3  so as to change the definition of "chiropractic"; to provide 
  1- 4  an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 
  1- 5  purposes. 
 
  1- 6       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 7                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 8  Code Section 43-9-1 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 9  Annotated, relating to definitions regarding chiropractors, 
  1-10  is amended by striking paragraph (2) thereof and inserting 
  1-11  in its place the following: 
 
  1-12      "(2) 'Chiropractic' means the adjustment of the 
  1-13      articulation of the human body, including ilium, sacrum, 
  1-14      and coccyx, for the maintenance and restoration of 
  1-15      health and the examination and performance of diagnostic 
  1-16      procedures to evaluate the deviations between the 
  1-17      musculoskeletal structures and function of the body, 
  1-18      particularly the spinal column and the nervous system, 
  1-19      and the use of electric X-ray photography, provided that 
  1-20      the X-ray shall not be used for therapeutical purposes. 
  1-21      The term 'chiropractic' shall also mean that separate 
  1-22      and distinct branch of the healing arts whose science 
  1-23      and art utilize the inherent recuperative powers of the 
  1-24      body and the relationship between the musculoskeletal 
  1-25      structures and functions of the body, particularly of 
  1-26      the spinal column and the nervous system, in the 
  1-27      restoration and maintenance of health.  Chiropractic is 
  1-28      a learned profession which teaches that the relationship 
  1-29      between structure and function in the human body is a 
  1-30      significant health factor and that such relationships 
  1-31      between the spinal column and the nervous system are 
  1-32      most significant, since the normal transmission and 
  1-33      expression of nerve energy are essential to the 
  1-34      restoration and maintenance of health.  However, the

  2- 1      term 'chiropractic' shall not include the use of drugs 
  2- 2      or surgery." 
 
  2- 3                           SECTION 2. 
 
  2- 4  This Act shall become effective on July 1, 1997. 
 
  2- 5                           SECTION 3. 
 
  2- 6  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
