A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Code Section 48-8-3 of the Official Code of Georgia
1- 2 Annotated, providing exemptions from sales and use taxes, so
1- 3 as to exempt as industrial materials certain materials used
1- 4 in the quarrying and manufacturing of granite into items for
1- 5 sale at retail; to provide for an effective date; to repeal
1- 6 conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 8 SECTION 1.
1- 9 Code Section 48-8-3 of the Official Code of Georgia
1-10 Annotated, providing exemptions from sales and use taxes, is
1-11 amended by striking division (35)(A)(ii) thereof and
1-12 inserting in its place the following new division:
1-13 "(ii) Industrial materials, other than machinery and
1-14 machinery repair parts, that are coated upon or
1-15 impregnated into the product at any stage of its
1-16 processing, manufacture, or conversion, which
1-17 industrial materials shall include without being
1-18 limited to all of the following materials when used
1-19 in the quarrying and manufacturing of granite into
1-20 items for sale at retail; or:
1-21 (I) Black powder;
1-22 (II) Saw shot;
1-23 (III) Saw abrasives;
1-24 (IV) Diamond sawing segments;
1-25 (V) Polishing grains, whether loose or compacted
1-26 into segments;
1-27 (VI) Buffing powders;
1-28 (VII) Tungsten carbide-tipped tools and inserts;
1-29 (VIII) Grinding wheels for profile machines;

2- 1 (IX) Sandblast stencils and materials for
2- 2 sandblasting process;
2- 3 (X) Sand and abrasives for sandblasting;
2- 4 (XI) Cleaning acids and chemicals; or".
2- 5 SECTION 2.
2- 6 This Act shall become effective on January 1, 1998.
2- 7 SECTION 3.
2- 8 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 9 repealed.
