                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Code Section 48-8-3 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1- 2  Annotated, relating to exemptions from state sales and use 
  1- 3  taxation, so as to provide for an exemption from state sales 
  1- 4  and use taxation for certain sales by postsecondary 
  1- 5  education organizations; to provide an effective date; to 
  1- 6  repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  Code Section 48-8-3 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-10  Annotated, relating to exemptions from state sales and use 
  1-11  taxation, is amended by striking the period at the end of 
  1-12  paragraph (58) thereof and inserting in its place a 
  1-13  semicolon, inserting "; or" at the end of paragraph (59) 
  1-14  thereof, and adding thereafter a new paragraph (60) to read 
  1-15  as follows: 
 
  1-16      "(60) Sales by any postsecondary education organization 
  1-17      affiliated with a college or university qualified as a 
  1-18      tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the 
  1-19      Internal Revenue Code." 
 
  1-20                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-21  Notwithstanding any provision of Code Section 1-3-4.1 to the 
  1-22  contrary, this Act shall become effective July 1, 1997. 
 
  1-23                           SECTION 3. 
 
  1-24  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
