A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing the Southern States Correctional Association on
1- 2 the occasion of its twenty-eighth anniversary and annual
1- 3 training conference; and for other purposes.
1- 4 WHEREAS, the membership of the Southern States Correctional
1- 5 Association is comprised of professional correctional
1- 6 personnel in the areas of adult and juvenile probation,
1- 7 community centers, institutions, and parole; and
1- 8 WHEREAS, this prestigious association was formed in 1969
1- 9 through the consolidation of its two long established
1-10 predecessor organizations, the Southern States Prison
1-11 Association and the Southern States Probation and Parole
1-12 Conference; and
1-13 WHEREAS, the 14 member states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida,
1-14 Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina,
1-15 Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and
1-16 West Virginia represent the leadership and innovative
1-17 direction of corrections today throughout the nation; and
1-18 WHEREAS, it is both fitting and proper that this association
1-19 be given due recognition for its contributions to the
1-20 overall improvement of corrections in the region by
1-21 fostering positive interaction, open communication, and the
1-22 sharing of ideas and solutions to common correctional
1-23 problems.
1-24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF
1-25 REPRESENTATIVES that the Southern States Correctional
1-26 Association and its members are commended for their many
1-27 contributions and efforts promoting correctional
1-28 professionalism and are welcomed to Georgia on the occasion
1-29 of their 1997 annual training conference to be held in
1-30 Savannah, Georgia.
1-31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of
1-32 Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an
1-33 appropriate copy of this resolution to Beverly Wade,
1-34 President of the Southern States Correctional Association.
