                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Part 1 of Article 2 of Chapter 12 of Title 16 of 
  1- 2  the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to 
  1- 3  gambling, so as to authorize manufacturing, processing, 
  1- 4  selling, possessing, and transporting gaming equipment, 
  1- 5  devices, and other materials for use in jurisdictions where 
  1- 6  those equipment and devices are legal; to provide for an 
  1- 7  effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other 
  1- 8  purposes. 
 
  1- 9       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1-10                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1-11  Part 1 of Article 2 of Chapter 12 of Title 16 of the 
  1-12  Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to gambling, is 
  1-13  amended by striking in its entirety subsection (a) of Code 
  1-14  Section 16-12-35, relating to applicability of that part, 
  1-15  and inserting in its place the following: 
 
  1-16    "(a) Any other laws to the contrary notwithstanding, this 
  1-17    part shall not be applicable to the manufacturing, 
  1-18    processing, selling, possessing, or transporting of any 
  1-19    printed materials, equipment, devices, or other materials 
  1-20    used or designated for use in a legally authorized lottery 
  1-21    nor shall it be applicable to the manufacturing, 
  1-22    processing, selling, possessing, or transporting of any 
  1-23    gaming equipment, devices, or other materials used or 
  1-24    designated for use only in jurisdictions in which the use 
  1-25    of such items is legal.  This part shall in no way 
  1-26    prohibit communications between persons in this state and 
  1-27    persons involved with such legal lotteries or gaming 
  1-28    devices relative to such printed materials, equipment, 
  1-29    devices, or other materials or prohibit demonstrations of 
  1-30    same within this state." 
 
  1-31                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-32  This Act shall become effective on July 1, 1997.

  2- 2  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
