substitute to SB 621:
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Part 4 of Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 10 of
1- 2 the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to false
1- 3 advertising, so as to provide for certain requirements
1- 4 relating to advertisement of rental rates for certain trucks
1- 5 and vans by rental companies; to provide a penalty; to
1- 6 provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and
1- 7 for other purposes.
1- 8 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 9 SECTION 1.
1-10 Part 4 of Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 10 of the
1-11 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to false
1-12 advertising, is amended by adding immediately following Code
1-13 Section 10-1-420 a new Code Section 10-1-420.1 to read as
1-14 follows:
1-15 "10-1-420.1.
1-16 (a) Any person, firm, or corporation engaged in the
1-17 business of renting trucks or vans, not intended primarily
1-18 for passenger use, for periods of less than 31 days which
1-19 shall make or disseminate or cause to be made or
1-20 disseminated before the public in this state in any
1-21 newspaper or other publication, radio, television, or
1-22 advertising device, or in any manner whatsoever, any
1-23 statement containing a specific rental rate for such a
1-24 truck or van shall also provide for a statement of the
1-25 minimum and maximum rental periods for which such rental
1-26 rate is valid and a statement of the mileage rate for such
1-27 truck or van if mileage during the rental period is to be
1-28 a separate, additional charge under the rental agreement.
1-29 (b) Any person, firm, or corporation violating this Code
1-30 section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor."
1-31 SECTION 2.
1-32 This Act shall become effective on July 1, 1998.

2- 2 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2- 3 repealed.
