A RESOLUTION
1- 1 Recognizing Coosa Middle School in developing a Classroom in
1- 2 the Wild center; and for other purposes.
1- 3 WHEREAS, Coosa Middle School has been recognized for its
1- 4 outstanding accomplishments in developing an Environmental
1- 5 Educational Center name "Classroom in the Wild" for the
1- 6 benefit of all students throughout north Georgia and
1- 7 specifically for students in the Floyd County School System
1- 8 and more specifically for Coosa Middle School students; and
1- 9 WHEREAS, many community volunteers and businesses have
1-10 contributed many hours of labor, materials, and supplies for
1-11 the benefit and development of the "Classroom in the Wild";
1-12 and
1-13 WHEREAS, the following persons will be honored at the first
1-14 annual "Classroom in the Wild" celebration banquet, Friday,
1-15 April 24th; and
1-16 WHEREAS, the "Classroom in the Wild" was developed from a
1-17 three acre abandoned ballfield under the leadership of a
1-18 science teacher, Mrs. LaRae Martin, to begin a campaign to
1-19 revitalize the land for a useful purpose; and
1-20 WHEREAS, the "Classroom in the Wild" has evolved into an
1-21 environmental center that includes clearly defined nature
1-22 trails, 42 learning centers based on middle school
1-23 curriculum, a pioneer log cabin that has become a local
1-24 history museum built by the students with the assistance of
1-25 community volunteers, native American garden, wildflower
1-26 meadow, Indian mound, herb gardens, gazebo entrance built by
1-27 students, observation tower, amphitheater, beehive, and
1-28 numerous other projects; and
1-29 WHEREAS, the "Classroom in the Wild" has brought together
1-30 students, educators, parents, senior citizens, and local
1-31 businesses in the common effort to educate the children
1-32 through the environmental education classroom; and
1-33 WHEREAS, the "Classroom in the Wild" has brought together
1-34 students, educators, parents, senior citizens and local
1-35 businesses in the common effort to educate the children
1-36 through the environmental education classroom; and

2- 1 WHEREAS, the "Classroom in the Wild" will continue to serve
2- 2 as a prototype of the classroom of tomorrow; that is a
2- 3 classroom built by students using knowledge gleaned through
2- 4 all facets of learning under the direction of Mr. Richard
2- 5 Riggs, Director of "Classroom in the Wild" environmental
2- 6 educational center.
2- 7 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the Senate
2- 8 honors Coosa Middle School, the Coosa Community, and the
2- 9 following individuals for contributing their time and
2-10 efforts to providing opportunities for children to benefit
2-11 from the "Classroom in the Wild" environmental education
2-12 center:

2-25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVE that Senate honors Mr. Charles
2-26 Patterson for devoting many tireless hours to this project
2-27 and his continued efforts throughout the Coosa Community to
2-28 provide a better tomorrow for all citizens. BE IT FURTHER
2-29 RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and
2-30 directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution
2-31 to Dr. Robert Puckett, Principal of Coosa Middle School.
