                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing and commending Malika Abdur Rahman; and for 
  1- 2  other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, Malika Abdur Rahman of Atlanta, Georgia, 
  1- 4  demonstrated extraordinary courage and remarkable heroics 
  1- 5  during an armed robbery at a local restaurant on Valentine's 
  1- 6  Day; and 
 
  1- 7  WHEREAS, around 10:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 14, 1998, 
  1- 8  she watched her mother, aunt, and four-year-old brother 
  1- 9  enter a restaurant on Ralph Abernathy Boulevard while she 
  1-10  remained in the car to look after her 20 month-old sister; 
  1-11  and 
 
  1-12  WHEREAS, she noticed a man forcing her family and others 
  1-13  inside the restaurant at gun point and realized a robbery 
  1-14  was in progress; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, this 12 year-old girl immediately responded by 
  1-16  running to the nearest telephone, reporting the crime to the 
  1-17  dispatcher, confirming the exact street information, and, 
  1-18  additionally, flagging down a patrol car cruising the area; 
  1-19  and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, as a result of her incredible timing and her calm 
  1-21  determination in the face of this life-threatening 
  1-22  emergency, Atlanta police were able to act swiftly and 
  1-23  precisely to rescue the victims from harm; and 
 
  1-24  WHEREAS, the heroic actions of this young female will long 
  1-25  be remembered by her family and by the families of others 
  1-26  whose lives were saved by her exceptional bravery. 
 
  1-27  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the 
  1-28  members of this body recognize and commend Malika Abdur 
  1-29  Rahman for her courageous efforts in a life-threatening 
  1-30  situation and express to her their admiration and praise. 
 
  1-31  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is 
  1-32  authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of 
  1-33  this resolution to Malika Abdur Rahman.
