A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Part 3 of Article 3 of Chapter 12 of Title 16 of
1- 2 the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the sale
1- 3 or distribution of harmful material to minors, so as to
1- 4 restrict the sale of certain sound recordings to minors; to
1- 5 provide a penalty; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
1- 6 purposes.
1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 8 SECTION 1.
1- 9 Part 3 of Article 3 of Chapter 12 of Title 16 of the
1-10 Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the sale or
1-11 distribution of harmful material to minors, is amended by
1-12 inserting at the end thereof the following:
1-13 "16-12-106.
1-14 (a) It shall be unlawful for any person engaged in the
1-15 business of selling sound recordings to the public for a
1-16 profit to sell to any person under the age of 18 years any
1-17 sound recording bearing the parental advisory logo imposed
1-18 by the Recording Industry Association of America
1-19 identifying the sound recording as containing strong
1-20 language or expressions of violence, sex, or substance
1-21 abuse.
1-22 (b) Any person found guilty of violating the provisions of
1-23 this Code section shall be punished as for a misdemeanor."
1-24 SECTION 2.
1-25 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-26 repealed.
