                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of 
  1- 2  Georgia Annotated, relating to elementary and secondary 
  1- 3  education, so as to require local boards of education to 
  1- 4  adopt policies permitting student-initiated spoken prayer 
  1- 5  during the school day, subject to certain conditions; to 
  1- 6  repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia 
  1-10  Annotated, relating to elementary and secondary education, 
  1-11  is amended by adding a new article, to be designated as 
  1-12  Article 21A, to read as follows: 
 
 
 
  1-13    20-2-1055. 
 
  1-14    Each local board of education shall adopt a policy that 
  1-15    permits student-initiated spoken prayer during the school 
  1-16    day in the same time, place, and manner as other student 
  1-17    speech and that prohibits school personnel from 
  1-18    participating in or actively supervising such prayer." 
 
  1-19                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-20  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
