                        A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 
                               AN ACT 
 
 
  1- 1  To amend Article 2 of Chapter 4 of Title 32 of the Official 
  1- 2  Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the state highway 
  1- 3  system, so as to provide for emergency motorist aid call 
  1- 4  boxes in certain areas along Interstate 75; to provide for 
  1- 5  legislative intent; to repeal conflicting laws; and for 
  1- 6  other purposes. 
 
  1- 7       BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA: 
 
  1- 8                           SECTION 1. 
 
  1- 9  Article 2 of Chapter 4 of Title 32 of the Official Code of 
  1-10  Georgia Annotated, relating to the state highway system, is 
  1-11  amended by adding at the end thereof a new Code Section 
  1-12  32-4-24 to read as follows: 
 
  1-13    "32-4-24. 
 
  1-14    (a) It is the intent of this Code section to protect the 
  1-15    public traveling on Interstate 75 by providing emergency 
  1-16    motorist aid call boxes in those areas along such 
  1-17    interstate highway where commercial establishments are not 
  1-18    accessible. 
 
  1-19    (b) The department shall place emergency motorist aid call 
  1-20    boxes at one-mile intervals along both the easterly and 
  1-21    westerly shoulders of Interstate 75 between the 
  1-22    Florida-Georgia border and the Tennessee-Georgia border; 
  1-23    provided, however, that the placement of such call boxes 
  1-24    shall not be necessary within the boundaries of any 
  1-25    municipal corporation, within one mile of a rest area 
  1-26    which has telephone service available to the traveling 
  1-27    public, or within one mile of an entrance or exit ramp 
  1-28    from the interstate to another highway or road at which 
  1-29    general location telephone service is available to the 
  1-30    traveling public." 
 
  1-31                           SECTION 2. 
 
  1-32  All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are 
  1-33  repealed.
