A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Code Section 20-8-5 of the Official Code of Georgia
1- 2 Annotated, relating to law enforcement powers of school
1- 3 security personnel, so as to change certain provisions
1- 4 applicable to every county having a population of 100,000 or
1- 5 more according to the United States decennial census of 1980
1- 6 or any future such census which empower a local board of
1- 7 education to authorize certain school security personnel to
1- 8 carry certain firearms or weapons and to make such
1- 9 provisions applicable state wide; to provide an effective
1-10 date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1-12 SECTION 1.
1-13 Code Section 20-8-5 of the Official Code of Georgia
1-14 Annotated, relating to law enforcement powers of school
1-15 security personnel, is amended by striking subsection (d)
1-16 and inserting in its place a new subsection (d) to read as
1-17 follows:
1-18 "(d) In every county having a population of 100,000 or
1-19 more according to the United States decennial census of
1-20 1980 or any future such census, school School security
1-21 personnel who are certified by the Georgia Peace Officer
1-22 Standards and Training Council may be authorized by a
1-23 local board of education to carry a standard issue firearm
1-24 or weapon generally used for law enforcement purposes for
1-25 the purpose of carrying out law enforcement duties."
1-26 SECTION 2.
1-27 This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the
1-28 Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.
1-29 SECTION 3.
1-30 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
1-31 repealed.
