A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Code Section 40-2-85.1 of the Official Code of
1- 2 Georgia Annotated, relating to special and distinctive
1- 3 license plates for veterans, so as to eliminate
1- 4 manufacturing fees and additional annual registration fees
1- 5 for such plates; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
1- 6 purposes.
1- 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1- 8 SECTION 1.
1- 9 Code Section 40-2-85.1 of the Official Code of Georgia
1-10 Annotated, relating to special and distinctive license
1-11 plates for veterans, is amended by striking subsections (b)
1-12 and (e) and inserting in lieu thereof the following:
1-13 "(b) A veteran who qualifies for the special and
1-14 distinctive license plate pursuant to subsection (a) of
1-15 this Code section shall make application therefor with the
1-16 commissioner and include the requisite fee. The
1-17 commissioner shall design a distinctive license plate to
1-18 commemorate service by the United States armed forces in
1-19 wars listed in subsection (a) of this Code section. The
1-20 commissioner shall promulgate such rules and regulations
1-21 as may be necessary to enforce compliance with all state
1-22 license laws relating to the use and operation of private
1-23 passenger cars and trucks before issuing these license
1-24 plates in lieu of the regular Georgia license plates. The
1-25 There shall be no manufacturing fee for such special and
1-26 distinctive license plates shall be $25.00. The
1-27 commissioner is specifically authorized to promulgate all
1-28 rules and regulations necessary to ensure compliance in
1-29 instances where such vehicles have been transferred or
1-30 sold. Except as provided in subsection (d) of this Code
1-31 section, such plates shall be nontransferable."
1-32 "(e) Special license plates issued under this Code section
1-33 shall be renewed annually with a revalidation decal as
1-34 provided in Code Section 40-2-31 upon payment of an

2- 1 additional $25.00 annual registration fee which fee shall
2- 2 be collected by the county tag agent at the time of
2- 3 collection of other registration fees and remitted to the
2- 4 state as provided in Code Section 40-2-34. It shall be a
2- 5 requirement that a county name decal shall be affixed and
2- 6 displayed on license plates issued under this Code
2- 7 section."
2- 8 SECTION 2.
2- 9 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2-10 repealed.
