A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
1- 1 To amend Subpart 1 of Part 3 of Article 4 of Chapter 12 of
1- 2 Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating
1- 3 to the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, so as to change
1- 4 provisions relating to the function and authority of the
1- 5 hall of fame; to provide that the hall of fame shall be the
1- 6 official state repository for aviation history; to authorize
1- 7 the hall of fame to establish a library and archive program
1- 8 and to receive, catalog, and maintain items related to
1- 9 aviation history and research; to provide for related
1-10 matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
1-12 SECTION 1.
1-13 Subpart 1 of Part 3 of Article 4 of Chapter 12 of Title 50
1-14 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the
1-15 Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame, is amended by striking Code
1-16 Section 50-12-72, relating to the purpose and function of
1-17 the board, and inserting in its place a new Code section to
1-18 read as follows:
1-19 "50-12-72.
1-20 (a) It shall be the main purpose and function of the board
1-21 to promote and encourage the growth and public support of
1-22 aviation within the state by honoring those, living or
1-23 dead, who by extraordinary achievement or service have
1-24 made outstanding and lasting contributions to aviation in
1-25 Georgia. Persons eligible for recognition in the Georgia
1-26 Aviation Hall of Fame shall include residents of the state
1-27 whose achievements in or contributions to aviation
1-28 occurred within or outside the state and nonresidents
1-29 whose achievements in or contributions to aviation
1-30 occurred within the state. The board is authorized to
1-31 conduct surveys and polls and to appoint committees to
1-32 assist it in performing its purpose and function.
1-33 (b) Without limiting the generality of subsection (a) of
1-34 this Code section, it is specifically further provided

2- 1 that the board shall be authorized to establish a library
2- 2 and a research archive program for purposes of education
2- 3 and research in the fields of aviation, aviation history,
2- 4 and related areas. The board shall be authorized to
2- 5 receive, catalog, and maintain documents, books, pictures,
2- 6 and other items for such purposes."
2- 7 SECTION 2.
2- 8 Said subpart is further amended by striking Code Section
2- 9 50-12-73, relating to facilities of the board and the hall
2-10 of fame, and inserting in its place a new Code section to
2-11 read as follows:
2-12 "50-12-73.
2-13 (a) With the approval of the federal government, the
2-14 Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame shall be located in the
2-15 Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base in Houston
2-16 County, Georgia. The headquarters of the board shall be
2-17 located in Houston County, Georgia. The board may obtain
2-18 such halls, rooms, quarters, and offices as it deems
2-19 necessary for conducting its affairs. The board is
2-20 authorized to recognize and designate any existing or
2-21 proposed facility as a part of the hall of fame as may be
2-22 appropriate.
2-23 (b) The Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame is designated as and
2-24 shall be known as the Official State of Georgia Repository
2-25 for Aviation History."
2-26 SECTION 3.
2-27 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are
2-28 repealed.
