                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Expressing regret at the passing of Dr. Carl Jordan; and for 
  1- 2  other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, all of Savannah mourned a great loss when Dr. Carl 
  1- 4  Rankin Jordan passed away on January 28, 2000, at the age of 
  1- 5  75; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, Dr. Jordan, a native of Savannah, graduated from 
  1- 7  St. Benedict Roman Catholic School and Beach Senior High 
  1- 8  School, before entering the Howard University B.S.-M.D. 
  1- 9  program; and 
 
  1-10  WHEREAS, Carl Jordan earned a B.S. cum laude in physics and 
  1-11  biology in 1946 and an M.D. degree, at age 23, in 1948, from 
  1-12  Howard University; and 
 
  1-13  WHEREAS, Dr. Jordan served a one-year internship in the U.S. 
  1-14  Public Health Service at Freedman's Hospital in Washington, 
  1-15  D.C., and seven years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps; and 
 
  1-16  WHEREAS, in 1949, Dr. Jordan returned to Savannah to 
  1-17  establish his medical practice in the inner city, and he 
  1-18  served as chief of surgery at the old Charity Hospital and 
  1-19  later founded the Jordan Clinic, the first freestanding 
  1-20  ambulatory surgical clinic in Savannah; and 
 
  1-21  WHEREAS, Dr. Jordan was quite active in medical and 
  1-22  community activities;  and he often lent his considerable 
  1-23  skills in leadership positions, such as secretary of the 
  1-24  Board of Trustees of the National Medical Association, 
  1-25  president of the Georgia State Medical Association, 
  1-26  president of the Catholic Layman's League, and national vice 
  1-27  president of the Holy Name Society; and 
 
  1-28  WHEREAS, Dr. Carl Jordan will be sorely missed by the 
  1-29  citizens of Savannah and most especially by his wife of 51 
  1-30  years, Anne Knight Jordan, their three children, Dr. Carmen 
  1-31  Jordan-Cox, Dr. Karen Jordan, and Harold Jordan, and five 
  1-32  grandchildren. 
 
  1-33  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-34  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body honor Carl

  2- 1  Rankin Jordan for a life well lived and express their 
  2- 2  sincerest regret at his passing. 
 
  2- 3  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  2- 4  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  2- 5  appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr.
