                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Recognizing and honoring the Chairman, the Grand Marshal, 
  1- 2  and other representatives of the Savannah St. Patrick's Day 
  1- 3  Parade Committee and inviting them to appear before the 
  1- 4  House of Representatives; and for other purposes. 
 
  1- 5  WHEREAS, the 2000 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah will 
  1- 6  mark the 176th occasion on which this festive event has been 
  1- 7  held; and 
 
  1- 8  WHEREAS, this celebration was begun in 1824 by the Hibernian 
  1- 9  Society of Savannah, which was formed to aid the early Irish 
  1-10  immigrants to Georgia; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, many Irish organizations have contributed to the 
  1-12  longevity and success of this celebration, and the St. 
  1-13  Patrick's Day Parade Committee, which was formed in 1926, 
  1-14  has carried on the tradition for the past 74 years; and 
 
  1-15  WHEREAS, this historic annual parade is always a joyous and 
  1-16  meaningful occasion for the citizens of Savannah, Chatham 
  1-17  County, and the State of Georgia. 
 
  1-18  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-19  REPRESENTATIVES that this body recognizes and honors the 
  1-20  Chairman, Grand Marshal, and other representatives of the 
  1-21  Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee for their 
  1-22  efforts on behalf of the 2000 Savannah St. Patrick's Day 
  1-23  Parade and their many important contributions to their 
  1-24  community and state and invite them to appear before this 
  1-25  body on a date and at a time designated by the Speaker of 
  1-26  the House of Representatives. 
 
  1-27  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-28  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit 
  1-29  appropriate copies of this resolution to the Chairman and 
  1-30  Grand Marshal of the 2000 Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade
