                             A RESOLUTION 
 
  1- 1  Expressing regret at the passing of George Sawyer; and for 
  1- 2  other purposes. 
 
  1- 3  WHEREAS, on February 2, 2000, the State of Georgia lost one 
  1- 4  of its finest and most distinguished citizens with the 
  1- 5  untimely passing of George Sawyer ; and 
 
  1- 6  WHEREAS, he was a long-time resident of Savannah who devoted 
  1- 7  his life to his community through his service as a member, 
  1- 8  past Grand Chancellor, and Chief Commander of the Order of 
  1- 9  Calanthe Ruth Court No. 41; and as a member of the Masonic 
  1-10  Order and the Supreme Lodge Knights of Pythias; and 
 
  1-11  WHEREAS, this beloved man was actively involved in the 
  1-12  civic, religious, and charitable affairs of his community 
  1-13  and gave unstintingly and unceasingly of his time, talents, 
  1-14  and energy to improve the quality of life in his community, 
  1-15  as dramatically evidenced by his decades of membership in 
  1-16  the St. James A.M.E. Church where he served as a teacher, 
  1-17  superintendent, and treasurer for the Sunday School; as a 
  1-18  member of the parish council; and in numerous other 
  1-19  capacities; and 
 
  1-20  WHEREAS, his unparalleled organizational and leadership 
  1-21  talents, his remarkable patience and diplomacy, his keen 
  1-22  sense of vision, and his acute sensitivity to the needs of 
  1-23  the citizens of his community earned him the respect and 
  1-24  admiration of his colleagues and associates; and 
 
  1-25  WHEREAS, the untimely passing of this generous, unselfish, 
  1-26  and devoted family man leaves an unfillable void in the 
  1-27  hearts and lives of his family and friends. 
 
  1-28  NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF 
  1-29  REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body express their 
  1-30  deepest and most sincere regret at the passing of George 
  1-31  Sawyer. 
 
  1-32  BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of 
  1-33  Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an 
  1-34  appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of George 
  1-35  Sawyer.
